Celebrate winter in the city with the seventh annual Bloor-Yorkville IceFest, taking place from February 24 - 26. The theme of this year’s festival is Winter Wilderness. Join us on Friday, February 24, as IceFest transforms Bloor-Yorkville with the arrival of the ice. See the majestic displays of Winter Wilderness come to life during the day as artists craft iconic winter-themed ice sculptures from an astonishing 30,000 lbs. of ice.
From 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 25 and Sunday, Feb. 26, the Village of Yorkville Park (Bellair St. and Cumberland St.) will welcome families to come and celebrate winter culture. Cumberland St. will be closed to traffic so that visitors can marvel at the sculpted showcase of Winter Wilderness which will include a magical “Ice Log Cabin” centrepiece display, celebrating Canada’s wild parklands, complete with a northern Lumberjack splitting wood next to a log fire, a moose grazing among carved “totem trees”, raccoons and jack rabbits. Visitors will also be able to enjoy ice carving demonstrations and on-street performers, including a skating performance by “Glisse on Ice”. Plus, children will love the complimentary “Ice Kiddie Cubes” with a collectible Gogo’s Crazy Bones toy inside!
The 12th Annual Sassafraz Ice Carving Competition starts Saturday at noon. Visitors are invited to watch talented ice carvers chisel out breathtaking pieces in the Village of Yorkville Park and cast their vote for favourite ice sculpture between 2 p.m. - 5 p.m. The People’s Choice Sculpture will be announced at 5:15 p.m. that day, and your vote could help you win one of our IceFest Prize Packages- there are three prizes in all, and they include stays at some of Bloor-Yorkville’s most exclusive hotels, health and beauty services at our fine salons, and more!
In addition, ice-carving demonstrations will be held on:
• Feb. 24: 12 pm - 2 pm at The Colonnade & Hudson’s Bay Centre
• Feb. 25: 1 pm - 3 pm at Manulife Centre and 101 Yorkville Avenue
• Feb. 26: 1 pm - 3 pm in Village of Yorkville Park
There will also be four of our neighbourhoods fine restaurants represented on the street, serving hot drinks, soups, crepes, mac n’ cheese and more hearty goodness to all visitors (prices may vary). These restaurants include:
Crêpes a Go Go
Sunset Grill
Caren’s Wine and Cheese
February is Heart Month and the Bloor-Yorkville BIA is supporting the Heart and Stroke Foundation, during IceFest. For a $5 donation, visitors can have their photo taken seated on a life-size snowmobile Photo Opportunity Area, in the Village of Yorkville Park from 1 pm. – 4 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
