Drum and Percussion Circle - ages 5 and up
Saturday June 16th, 2012 - 1 to 2 pm
 
This Drum and Percussion Circle, lead by professional drummer Neal Burstyn, will focus on time (keeping the steady beat), simple rhythm and ensemble work. Students can expect to play on a student sized drum kit as well as African drums and percussion instruments.
 
As steady beat is an essential part of music, students can expect to work on their sense of time and coordination which is not only essential to music but also transfers over into gross motor skills and coordination needed for sports, dance and other movement oriented activities.
 
Understanding rhythm is an important element of music for all instruments. Learning about beats, measures and rhythm is strongly correlated to mathematical skills and can improve students’ ability to understand math in school.
 
Ensemble work is also a very essential part of music and of course transfers over into teamwork skills in school, sports and everyday life as well.
 
The Drum and Percussion Circle is $30 per student paid by cash or cheque (cash is preferable) and there is a maximum of 10 spaces in the workshop.
