On Saturday, June 9 at 7:30 pm, the recently renamed VOCA Chorus of Toronto (formerly THE EAST YORK CHOIR) will present Earth, Sea & Sky, featuring Paul Winter's joyous, rhythmic and moving celebration of the Earth, the MISSA GAIA / EARTH MASS.
The voices of Arctic timber wolf, Humpback whale, loon and other creatures will join with those of our choir, accompanied by an instrumental ensemble featuring some of this country's finest musicians (more info below).
This remarkable work provides stunning contrasts - interweavings of ancient and contemporary texts and melodies; serene chants, vibrant Brazilian rhythms and gospel music - and will feature full chorus, soloists and instrumentalists, often against a dramatic backdrop of haunting sounds from the wild.
We will also be performing a wide variety of selections by Paul Halley, Stephen Hatfield, Eric Whitacre, Morten Lauridsen, Allistair McGillivray, Bob Chilcott and Peter Schickele, featuring several soloists, including our section leads Penelope Dale, Martin Houtman and Bryan Estabrooks.
