Thinking of going to the beach this summer? Kick up the excitement quotient by first taking the family to see this Alex Film Society screening of the classic 1975 thriller Jaws. Amity was a bucolic seaside resort that relied on the annual influx of summer vacationers. Then one day a great white shark began feeding on folks there who ventured into the waters. In 1974, when veteran producers Richard Zanuck and David Brown were choosing a director for their on-location feature film, they took a chance on a brash 27-year-old upstart. His name was Steven Spielberg, and his film, starring veteran actors Roy Scheider and Robert Shaw and introducing Richard Dreyfuss as one of the top box-office draws of the 1970s, went on to win three Academy Awards, including Best Original Score for composer John Williams.
