Mary-Arrchie Theatre Co. presents their four-time Jeff Award-nominated production of Superior Donuts, the heart-warming story of Arthur, a cynical and grizzled 1960s anti-war radical who struggles to keep his rundown donut shop in Uptown afloat. Fate brings him help in the form of Franco, a young, energetic yet trouble African-American man who tries to infuse the place with some upbeat tunes and healthy menu items. As you might expect, the relationship that unfolds threatens to turn Arthur's life upside-down, but perhaps for the better. The play features a carefully crafted blend of gritty and insightful interactions between Arthur, Franco and the peripheral characters bookended by Arthur's monologues where he reminisces about his beloved Chicago as it appeared in his younger, more idealistic days.
