Since opening on February 9, 1914, amidst the heyday of vaudeville, the Pantages Playhouse Theatre has played a vibrant role in Winnipegs performing arts community. The theatre has hosted a variety of entertainment over the years. The range covers vaudeville, professional and amateur theatre, classical, jazz, folk, rock, popular and country music, lectures, political rallies, high school productions and world calibre ballet.
The Playhouse has been, and continues to be, a reflection of the city and is located in the Exchange District National Historic Site. The theatre has been shaped by Winnipegs politics, its values and its people. It has managed to survive where other theatres have not.
Founder Alexander Pantages policy of "something for everyone" has held true for over eighty years by providing a cultural touchstone for the people of Winnipeg.
